I had a pretty good report from the guest teacher yesterday-just a lot of talking as usual.  I am also continuing to mark missing work on classdojo, as well as unsigned agendas, or misbehaving for guest teachers. Some parents have been telling me their child is completing homework at home, but getting docked points on Dojo. Sometimes this is due to the fact that they student left the completed work at home, so I can't mark it as finished.  Other times, they do not get it out when I am checking it, so I do not know it is finished.

Please get your conference time slips to me ASAP!

Learning Math Games

Mrs. Amato, a Math Coach at our school, came in to teach us a game to get better at our multiples.  It is basically like the game Speed.  If you have the set for multiples of two, you can put a multiple counting up or down by two on the pile. For example, if the number 6 is down on the pile, you could put a 8 or a 4 down.

The class had an opportunity to play the game for practice. We will add this game to our game center to practice math facts!

2-25-13

Today Mr. Larson and I had a talk with the class about their behavior for guest teachers.  We moved desks and tried to get groups that would be more able to control themselves for tomorrow's guest teacher.

Homework:

Math: pages 171-174 in WKBK, hwk 5.9 evens

Reading: 4th Fang due Monday, read Haiku to someone and get ti signed.

Other: conference time slip due ASAP!

2-20-13

Today we had an early lunch because we switched with Kindergarten while they were on a trip.  It made the day seem really long :)  The kids worked hard in writing class doing debate prompts and sharing work with the class.

Homework:

Other: Guest teacher tomorrow-use the Eagle Way!  Family movie night tomorrow-6:30, t-shirt designs due March 1st.

Reading: 3rd Fang  due Monday, poem signed if you didn't do it already

Math: HWK 5.7 odds-use page 169 in your workbook for the steps.

Social Studies: study your study guide-quiz tomorrow.

2-19-13

Today we made inferences about a book character named Maya from the book Each Kindness.  Ask your child what inference they made about her and why. The class got a class e-ticket from the Mrs. Gronke for working hard in Art class.

Homework:

Other: Thursday Guest Teacher, Thursday Movie night 6:30 in the commons, Friday no school

Reading: 2nd Fang due.  Read poem to someone and get signed-this was assigned yesterday.

Social Studies: fill out the first and last pages of the study guide without looking at maps etc in preparation for our quiz on Thursday.

Math: HWK 5.7 evens

I had moved the room around yesterday, so the class and I got used to the new arrangement.  We also go to look at our final pamphlets for the first time. We will be sharing them with another grade level soon!

Homework:

Reading: 20 minutes each night for Fang Reading Club-2nd signed Fang due Monday, buy another notebook for Spelling use.

Other: Book order due Monday

Valentines Day Party!!!!

Sorry for not having a post in a few days-having a guest teacher so often this and last week threw me off!

Homework:

Other: Valentine's Day party and Electronic Day tomorrow.  11 am dismissal

Math: homework 5.5 odds (in other words, finish the sheet since the evens were due today.)
Get unit 4 Math test signed and returned.

Reading/Writing: get a new notebook for Spelling.  Read 20 minutes for Fang Reading Club

Today was ok, although we had to have talks about the class' behavior for the guest teacher yesterday. The main problems are excessive talking, and not being nice to other students in the classroom.  I had to have a discussion about why it is not ok to call other kids "fat" which was happening in Math class yesterday.  I keep stressing to students that we are all here to learn, that is our job....many students are not taking that job very seriously.

I will be having a guest teacher once a week for all of February for a training.  I would like to see this behavior improve.

Homework:

Math: Redo problems in HWK 5.2 from last night, or do the evens for practice.

Reading: the first Fang is due signed by Monday if you are doing the Fang Reading Club.

Other: report card slips, electronic note, valentine's party note signed and returned.  11 am dismissal on Feb. 14th.

Today was a busy day. We had library and Art in the morning. In the afternoon we brainstormed historical events in the reading activity station that we will use to find common themes along history.

Homework:

Math: HWK 5.1 evens

Reading: 20 minutes-bring in Fang baseball diamond if you are doing Fang Reading Club

Other: report card slips, electronic note, and valentine party slips due signed.  Guest teacher tomorrow-please be on your best behavior!

2-4-13

Today we had to have a talk about keeping hands/feet/etc to your selves, especially when we are all smushed in the hallway together.  We also had Phy Ed and Music, and compared and contrasted two historical events in reading class.

Homework:

Other: report card sheets signed, electronic day slips signed, valentine notes signed, bring brown paper grocery bags in whenever, guest teacher Wednesday-just a heads up!

Reading: 20 minutes. Fang Reading Club starts today-bring in your baseball diamond to hang up in school if you are participating.

Math: practice math facts at home.
